Cowboys release WR Houston

The Cowboys released wide receiver Dennis Houston on Tuesday.

The move opens up a spot on the 53-man roster, with the anticipation of wide receiver Michael Gallup being added to the roster by week’s end.

Houston, an undrafted free-agent rookie signed during the offseason, was on the active roster for both games this season. He played 60 plays against Tampa Bay and Cincinnati, where he caught two passes for 16 yards.

If Gallup is not activated this week, the release of Houston allows the Cowboys to bring rookie wide receiver Jalen Tolbert onto the 53-man roster.

Houston can be signed to the practice squad if he clears waivers.
