Alton McCaskill officially enters transfer portal
Former Houston Cougars football running back Alton McCaskill is entering the transfer portal, he announced on Wednesday morning.
“My time at the University of Houston has been the most rewarding experience I’ve encountered thus far,” McCaskill said in a post on his Twitter account. “It has been an honor to represent the city of Houston through football.”
McCaskill led UH’s running game in 2021 as a true freshman with 961 yards, and he was expected to be the lead piece to the Cougars’ offense in 2023. The Conroe native missed all of 2022 after suffering a torn ACL injury on his left knee.
A school spokesperson confirmed on Tuesday night to Gallery Sports McCaskill was expected to enter the transfer portal on Wednesday morning. McCaskill made it official on Wednesday.
Houston’s running backs group will now be led by returners Brandon Campbell, Stacy Sneed and Kelan Walker. Sherman Smith is another returning name. UH will see new faces in Maurice Reed, who redshirted the 2022 season, and incoming freshmen Parker Jenkins and Re’Shaun Sanford.
