Arch Manning to enroll early at Texas
Reports surfaced Friday that top-ranked quarterback Arch Manning intends to enroll at Texas this January. Manning, a nephew of NFL quarterbacks Peyton and Eli, committed to Texas in June.
Manning’s commitment showcases the recruiting ability of head coach Steve Sarkisian, a noted quarterback guru. Sarkisian also orchestrated the arrival of Quinn Ewers, a highly touted transfer from Ohio State, this summer.
Though Ewers is the clear-cut starter in Austin, Manning will get a jump start on his development as a college signal caller. His enrollment will allow him to be immersed in the Texas offense over the winter and jump into competition for playing time next season.
In the modern game, Manning’s arrival will likely lead to one of the quarterbacks already on the roster to at least examine the transfer portal. Sophomore Hudson Card has shown improvement this season, and he could be a hot commodity if he decides the writing is on the wall.
No matter how the situation develops, one thing is for sure; the Longhorns are adding talent and getting better.
