This Week: Won 43-40 (2OT) vs. #8 Oklahoma State
Next Week: vs. #17 Kansas State
What a game and what a win for the TCU Horned Frogs. After crushing Oklahoma on the first of the month and then sneaking out a win against red-hot Kansas last week, this was a huge win for TCU, taking down the presumed Big 12 favorite. TCU won the offensive battle in almost every category. TCU amassed more yards both on the ground and through the air, converted more first downs, committed fewer penalties, and won in time of possession. It was not the prettiest win, but it was a win they needed to be taken seriously in the Big 12 and potentially become the favorite to win the conference.
QB Max Duggan continues his hot play by completing 23 of 40 for 286 yards and two touchdowns. Duggan has made it a point to be efficient throwing the football and not forcing throws that lead to turnovers. He has only thrown one interception on the season. Duggan showed who his favorite target was this game as Quentin Johnston put up huge numbers. He pulled in eight catches for 180 yards and a touchdown. The Horned Frogs got some serious help in the running game as well, with Kendre Miller averaging almost five yards a carry in the game. He continues to be a force in the offense by putting up 104 yards and two scores on 22 carries.
TCU’s defense held firm against an offense that has performed exceptionally well to start the year. The Cowboys have put up over 30 points in every game they have played so far this year. The score is deceiving, but seeing how Oklahoma State continuously struggled to remain efficient with the football, it proved the Horned Frogs came to play. QB Spencer Sanders completed less than half of his throws and turned the ball over. There were very few big plays from any Oklahoma State receivers. The only production that came from that side was from Dominic Richardson, who led the team in both rushing and receiving yards while also producing a score on the ground.
TCU will look to continue their great start against #17 Kansas State next weekend. The Wildcats will be coming fresh off of their bye week.
