Arrest warrant issued for potential No. 1 pick in NFL Draft Jalen Carter

The Athens-Clarke County Police Department has issued an arrest warrant for University of Georgia defensive tackle Jalen Carter, 21, for Reckless Driving and Racing in connection with the fatal crash that took teammate Devin Willock’s and Georgia recruiting analyst Chandler LeCroy’s lives on Jan. 15.

According to the Athens-Clarke County Police Department, Carter and LeCroy were each driving vehicles “in a manner consistent with racing” after leaving the downtown Athens, Georgia area around 2:30 a.m. ACCPD claims that there is evidence that LeCroy’s 2021 Ford Expedition was driving 104 miles per hour, and the toxicology report showed a blood alcohol concentration of .197 for LeCroy.

Jalen Carter, considered by many to be the top overall prospect in this April’s NFL Draft and possibly the No. 1 overall pick, was scheduled to speak to the media Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. CT at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis but his podium remained vacant. Carter subsequently stated that he will be “fully exonerated of any criminal wrongdoing” in the matter in a statement he released prior to leaving the NFL Combine on Wednesday.

According to police, the case has been forwarded to the Solicitor General’s Office.

Update: According to Zach Klein of WSB-TV Atlanta, Carter was booked Wednesday night at 11:33 pm ET and posted bail at 11:49 pm ET. Carter returned to the combine Thursday morning to “finish interviews, measurements, and other activities” per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
