Astros hire Dana Brown as GM

A day after Jim Crane told reporters that he was taking his time to get the right general manager this time around, Mark Berman broke the news as to who it was. It was the guy Astros fans wanted, someone who could help rebuild the farm system, and that’s Dana Brown. He was formerly the vice president of amateur scouting for the Atlanta Braves.

Brown has helped the Braves draft several impact players, such as Michael Harris, Spencer Strider, and Vaughn Grissom. Harris and Strider finished first and second, respectively in the 2022 rookie of the year race last season and are big reasons Atlanta is poised to be a juggernaut in the NL East for many years. The Braves have also gone to the playoffs for the past five years, including a World Series win over, well, you know who they beat.

Brown also is the only current African American GM in MLB. He also joins Ken Williams, the President of Baseball Operations for the White Sox, as the only African American executives in baseball. He has proven success in scouting talent and should bring that to Houston as well.

Brown has some ties with Houston in that he played college baseball with a Houston legend, Craig Biggio at Seton Hall. Welcome to Houston, Dana Brown!
