Astros parade set for today in downtown Houston

Now that the Astros have won the World Series, it’s time for the victory parade.

The parade will be today in downtown at noon, the city announced in a press conference on Sunday.

When the Astros won their first title in 2017, more than a million people came downtown to celebrate. The crowd could be bigger than that today.

According to mayor Sylvester Turner, the parade route will start at Smith and Preston and end at Smith and Tuam. City officials encouraged fans to use public transit, which will be free. HISD schools announced closures for today as well as Ft. Bend, Channelview, Alief, Aldine and Lamar ISD schools.

University of Houston campuses as well as Houston Christian, Texas Southern University and all Houston Community College campuses are also closed today and will resume classes tomorrow on Tuesday.

The city celebrated well into the evening Saturday after the Astros closed out the Philadelphia Phillies in six games to win their second World Series. Monday will be another opportunity for fans to celebrate.
