BREAKING: Aggies bench QB Haynes King, Max Johnson to start vs. Miami
On Thursday night a source within the Texas A&M football program told The Battalion (@TheBattOnline) that Max Johnson will be starting at quarterback on Saturday night when the Aggies welcome no. 13 Miami to College Station.
The Aggies experienced a massive upset last week whenever Appalachian State came to town, losing 17-14. The A&M offense saw only eight offensive drives and possessed the football for a mere 18 minutes and 30 seconds.
Sophomore quarterback Haynes King went 13-20 from the pocket for 97 yards through the air. A horrific statline for the Longview native. What’s more terrifying for the 12th Man? King was pressured only three times of his 24 dropbacks. The quarterback was 0-2 on passes over 20 yards and 1 for 4 on passes 10-19 yards. King also fumbled the football twice in the loss to Appalachian State.
Was QB Haynes King to blame for the Aggies stunning loss to Appalachian State? Had his talents been properly utilized by Jimbo Fisher and his offensive staff? Both are fair questions to ask heading into week three when A&M welcomes Miami into town. Jimbo Fisher had all offseason and into the spring to evaluate the quarterbacks on his roster. King won the job. As it turns out, the sophomore had a two game leash. All eyes are now on the transfer, Max Johnson; and Jimbo Fisher’s seat is getting hotter by the minute.
