Broncos request to speak with Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn for head coaching position
From the Cowboys’ perspective, some viewed it as a miracle that defensive coordinator Dan Quinn did not get a head coaching job last offseason. Instead, he chose to stay with the team for a second season, likely passing on other opportunities elsewhere. This year could be a different story in Dallas, as the Denver Broncos have already requested permission to speak with Quinn about their head coaching vacancy.
Quinn has quickly turned around this Dallas defense making it one of the best in football over the past two years. Since his hire, it is clear that the players love playing for Quinn. Teams around the league see that and seem to be willing to give him another shot as a head coach.
After two years of being the defensive coordinator for the Seattle Seahawks, where most consider him responsible for the Legion of Boom, he was hired by the Atlanta Falcons to be their head coach. He lasted six years in Atlanta, making it to a Superbowl in 2016, before getting fired after the 2020 season. He was then hired by the Cowboys to be their defensive coordinator, where his impact was immediately felt.
The Broncos fired former Packers offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett earlier in the season, opening their head coaching position.
UPDATE: The Broncos will officially interview Dan Quinn on Friday, January 20. Quinn has been linked to the Broncos dating back to last offseason, and with another strong season as the Cowboys’ defensive coordinator, Quinn’s name is set to pop up often in coaching rumors. Given how poorly the Nathaniel Hackett experiment went for Denver, they could be seeking someone with head coaching experience. Quinn fits the bill as the former head coach of the Atlanta Falcons, taking them to a Superbowl in 2016.
