Cadence Bank Houston Open Round Three Recap: Tony Finau maintains lead, puts himself in position to win heading into final round
Finally, day three of the Cadence Bank Houston Open provided the tournament’s first round, not suspended by darkness or by weather. Tony Finau maintained the lead he built over the course of the first two rounds, shooting two under par Saturday to move to 15 under on the tournament. After Finau tied his personal best shooting a 62 on Friday, his Saturday round saw him finish without a single bogey. British golfers Ben Taylor and Justin Rose powered up the leaderboard behind him, shooting four under and five under, respectively, to occupy the next two spots on the leaderboard entering Sunday’s final round.
Finau has a four-shot lead on Taylor (-11) and a seven-shot lead on Rose (-8), who is tied with Wyndham Clark and Tyson Alexander. Scottie Scheffler, the world’s second-ranked golfer, finished one over par Saturday and fell to 25th, where he is now tied with Jason Day, Stephen Jaeger, and Aaron Wise. Sunday’s final round will tee off bright and early with all eyes on Tony Finau, who will have to falter a bit for anyone else on the leaderboard to have a chance to catch him.
