- Big 12 Unbeatens Clash in Ft. Worth – TCU may be the biggest surprise in all of college football as the Horned Frogs are up to #13 in the AP poll lead by the nations 3rd ranked offense. Last weeks win against Kansas proved to be the test we expected, but the schedule doesn’t lighten up as #8 Oklahoma State comes to town in a game that could be an early season look ahead to the Big 12 Championship. TCU is a 4 point favorite in a game that will likely be decided by QB play. If OK State QB Spencer Sanders reverts back to his turnover issues that have plagued him in the past, this game may be a multiple score win for TCU.
- 2. Let Down Spot for Texas? – In a three-week span Texas will have played Oklahoma in the Red River Rivalry, and taken a road trip to Stillwater against what could be a top 10 team. But split between those games is a visit from Iowa State that on paper Texas should win in convincing fashion. My attention is on the game to see what level of maturity Texas possesses and if this is a team that can get back in the hunt for the Big 12 crown with Quinn Ewers back healthy. Iowa State has the nations 96th ranked offense, while Texas has had no trouble creating explosive plays with Ewers at the helm. The Longhorns are a 3 score favorite in this game and if they play to the level we’ve seen against Alabama and Oklahoma, this game won’t be nearly that close.
- 3. Is Rice For Real? – With several teams in the southwest region on a bye, let me take this opportunity to inform you all that the Rice Owls may have a legitimate contender in CUSA this year. With wins over ULL and UAB in the last 3 weeks, the Owls are in a way-too-early position to begin dreaming of a CUSA title run that would shock the G5 world. If those dreams have any hopes of becoming a reality Rice will need to continue their positive momentum off their bye week at FAU this weekend. If Rice wins the battle of the Owls this weekend Rice will certainly have the attention of CUSA in its last year in the league.
