There were reports of mutual interest in a return between the Cowboys and Dante Fowler. According to Jordan Schultz of theScore, the two sides agreed to a one-year deal keeping Fowler in town.
Fowler has been a favorite of defensive coordinator Dan Quinn since Quinn recruited him to Florida in 2012. They then were reunited in Atlanta when the Falcons signed him in 2020 and again when Fowler signed with Dallas last year.
As a Cowboy, Fowler played in all 17 regular season games and recorded six sacks, seven tackles for loss, and two forced fumbles, as a rotational edge rusher. Fowler helps solidify a group that was among the best last season in pressuring the quarterback, especially early in the year.
Fowler, 28, was drafted sixth overall by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 2015 NFL Draft out of Florida. He played two and a half seasons in Jacksonville after missing his entire rookie season with a torn ACL. He was suspended for one game in 2018 for violating the league’s personal conduct policy.
In October of 2018, Fowler was traded to the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for a 2019 third-round compensatory pick and a 2020 fifth-round pick. In his second year with the Rams, he put up his best season, recording 11.5 sacks and 16 tackles for loss in 14 starts.
He signed a three-year, $48 million deal with the Atlanta Falcons under Dan Quinn in March of 2020 and spent a solid portion of time on the injured reserve list. He played in Atlanta for two years before being released in February of 2022. The next month, the Cowboys signed him to a one-year deal.
Fowler will look to continue the solid production he provided for the Cowboys last season as he rejoins a group with stars Micah Parsons and DeMarcus Lawrence.
