Cowboys bring back special teams ace Goodwin on 1-year deal

After losing two of their main special teams pieces at the start of free agency in linebacker Luke Gifford and wide receiver Noah Brown, the Dallas Cowboys stemmed the tide for that unit, retaining cornerback and special teams ace C.J. Goodwin on a one-year deal.

Goodwin was undrafted in 2014 and joined the Steelers as a practice squad player, then played with five other teams until 2018, when he was signed by Dallas. Goodwin has since been the top special teams player for the Cowboys as their primary gunner.

Goodwin has totaled 1,338 special teams snaps in five seasons with Dallas, frequently making impact plays.

While not a headline-making move, Goodwin is not only an extremely valuable special teams player but also a leader and positive influence in the locker room, making his return on a cap-friendly contract a no-brainer.
