Cowboys’ coordinators Moore, Quinn both real candidates for head coaching gigs

The Houston Cougars basketball team is traveling to Orlando, Florida, for a matchup with the Central Florida Knights on Wednesday evening. While offensive coordinator Kellen Moore seems to be less sought after in the head coaching market, defensive coordinator Dan Quinn is among the hottest names out there.

Some would call it a miracle that the Cowboys retained Quinn last offseason when it seemed certain he would find work elsewhere. Come this offseason, after an uber-successful year where Dallas was among the top defenses in the league, it again appears that Quinn is likely to find a head coaching gig somewhere.

According to multiple sources, Quinn is headed to Arizona for a second interview with the Cardinals for their head coaching vacancy. The Cardinals fired Kliff Kingsbury this offseason, and their interest in Quinn shows a possible change in philosophy.

Quinn also looks to be a finalist for the Indianapolis Colts and Denver Broncos openings as they continue their search for another head coach. The Colts have reportedly been interested in bringing Quinn back for a second interview, and the Broncos have made their interest in him clear. As of now, there have not been any rumblings of a second interview in Denver. The Colts and Broncos both fired their coaches during the season. Indianapolis let go of Frank Reich earlier in the year, and Denver fired first-year head coach Nathaniel Hackett.

As for Kellen Moore, the only team publicly interested in him is the Carolina Panthers, who are also in the running for Hall of Fame coach Sean Payton. According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Moore and the Panthers were set to meet Tuesday. Carolina let go of Matt Rhule earlier this season.

Moore is widely viewed around the NFL as one of the brightest young offensive minds in the game. Though the interest so far this offseason has not been overwhelming, one can only assume that a head coaching opportunity is in Moore’s not-too-distant future.
