Cowboys sign Rush, Maher to active roster
The Cowboys signed quarterback Cooper Rush and kicker Brett Maher from the practice squad to the active roster on Saturday afternoon in preparation for Sunday’s game against Cincinnati.
To make room for Rush and Maher, the Cowboys placed defensive end Tarell Basham on injured reserve and waived rookie defensive tackle John Ridgeway, a fifth-round pick out of Arkansas. Basham, who was injured in the second half of the Cowboys’ Week 1 loss to Tampa Bay, will be out a minimum of four weeks.
The Cowboys also used their two callups from the practice squad on quarterback Will Grier and center Alec Lindstrom.
Grier, who will be the primary back-up to Rush, is the only other quarterback on the active roster after starter Dak Prescott went down with a thumb fracture on his throwing hand in the loss to the Buccaneers.
Along with Prescott and Basham, the Cowboys have ruled wide receiver Michael Gallup, safety Jayron Kearse and guard Connor McGovern out for Sunday’s game.
