Dallas Cowboys: 2022 NFL Season Preview

Dallas Cowboys: 2022 NFL Season Preview

3 things to watch for the Dallas Cowboys in 2022

1. Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott comes off one of the best seasons in team history, finishing with 37 touchdown passes and just 10 interceptions in 2021. That production helped the Cowboys lead the NFL in offense, however it didn’t translate to victories when it counted most – the playoffs. If Prescott wants to cement his legacy with those in this storied franchise’s past, he will have to be better when the stakes are their highest.

2. When the Cowboys talk about success in 2022, it starts with winning the NFC East. To do that, the 2021 division champs will have to buck history, because no team has won the East in back-to-back seasons since Philadelphia won four straight titles from 2001-04. This will be the sixth time since 2004 Dallas has a chance to secure back-to-back division titles, the last time coming in 2019 after a 10-6 season in 2018.

3. In 2021, linebacker Micah Parsons became the first Cowboys draft pick to win the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year, an award handed out since 1967. The NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award has been handed out since 1957 and four Cowboys have earned the honor – RB Calvin Hill 1969, RB Tony Dorsett 1977, RB Emmitt Smith 1990 and QB Dak Prescott 2016.

Game of the year: Week 10: Cowboys at Green Bay – Dallas rolls into Lambeau Field off a Week 9 bye, in a game you know head coach Mike McCarthy has circled on his calendar. If the Cowboys survived their gauntlet to start the season – facing the Buccaneers, Bengals, Rams and Eagles all in the first 6 weeks, then a win in Green Bay could go a long way in deciding home field advantage come playoff time in the NFC.

Vegas win total: 10

Predicted win total: 10 – With a tough first place schedule looming for the Cowboys in 2022, their saving grace will again be playing the teams in the NFC East twice. If Dallas struggles against Philadelphia, Washington and the New York Giants, the East will most likely have a new champ for the 18th straight season.
