The Toronto Blue Jays have hired former Houston Astros GM James Click to the position of Vice President, Baseball Strategy, per The Athletic’s Kaitlyn McGrath. Click and the Astros parted ways on Nov. 11, 2022 after he declined a one-year contract offered by the club for 2023.

On the hiring, the Blue Jays press release said the following:

“Click will join the Baseball Operations leadership team, working closely with General Manager Ross Atkins and department heads on strategic planning, decision making, and evaluation.”

The Blue Jays plan is for Click to work with both pro and amateur levels within the organization.

Click, who served as the Astros general manager for three seasons from 2020 through 2022, led the Astros to more victories than any other team in the American League during that tenure. Before his time in Houston, he spent 15 years working in the Tampa Bay Rays organization.

The Astros have since hired general manager Dana Brown, formerly of the Atlanta Braves front office, who has already endeared himself to fans in Houston by extending pitcher Cristian Javier and making his intentions clear to keep other stars in the organization long term.
