Former Baylor guard LJ Cryer commits to Houston Cougars basketball
The Houston Cougars basketball team landed another guard to its roster for the 2023-24 season — former Baylor guard LJ Cryer.
Cryer announced his decision to commit to Houston on Sunday afternoon via his Instagram account. He went live with national reporter Jon Rothstein and discussed his decision to choose Houston. The Katy native is no stranger to Houston or the Big 12.
“I’m comfortable going into this because, like you said, I played in the Big 12 before, so I know what it takes to win,” Cryer told Rothstein. “Just being with Houston, I know I got dogs with me.”
Cryer averaged 15 points, 2.1 rebounds, and two assists for the Bears during the 2022-23 season. He also shot 45.3% from the field and 41.5% on 3-pointers. He comes to Houston as a senior for the upcoming season.
Houston hosted Cryer on a campus visit over the course of the weekend, a source told Gallery Sports. His visit ended on Sunday morning. Both parties knew he was choosing the Cougars by the time it was complete. Cryer announced just a few minutes later.
Cryer joins guard Damian Dunn, who announced he was transferring to Houston on Saturday, as veteran players that will be on the roster for the Cougars for the 2023-24 season.
