Former Houston Cougars QB Clayton Tune goes to Arizona Cardinals in NFL Draft

Quarterback Clayton Tune was selected No. 139 overall by the Arizona Cardinals in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft on Saturday afternoon.

Tune started a vast majority of games for the Houston Cougars football team from 2019 through the 2022 seasons. This past season, he threw 40 passing touchdowns, which was a single-season record in the American Athletic Conference. Tune threw only 10 interceptions. He also rushed for an additional five touchdowns.

The Carrollton native was fifth in the nation averaging 313.4 passing yards per game for UH. His 104 career passing touchdowns with the Cougars were the second-most all-time in the program’s history.

“He’s had 3,250 reps in his five years at Houston, so they are getting an experienced guy,” UH head coach Dana Holgorsen said about Tune in March during the team’s pro day. “His arm talent is good, his accuracy is good … Experienced guy, a lot of knowledge, calm, poised and ready to go.”
