Fred Faour: What are the odds the favorite will win the Kentucky Derby and you will cash the Gallery promo? Pretty good
As you know by now, Mattress Mack has a great promo where if the favorite wins the Kentucky Derby, you get your furniture for free. Check out the flyer below and then learn how likely it is you could score free furniture.
This year’s Derby field is shaping up as fairly top-heavy, with Forte the likely favorite and your rooting interest for furniture. Since the new points system began in 2013, favorites have been dominating. From 2013-2019, the favorites won six in a row. Two of the horses – American Pharoah (2015) and Justify (2018) – went on to win the Triple Crown.
The other winning favorites were Orb (2013), California Chrome (2014), Nyquist (2016), and Always Dreaming (2017).
Things started to change in 2019 when 65-1 Country House was placed first after a controversial disqualification of second favorite Maximum Security. The favorite, Improbable, finished fifth.
In 2020, the race was moved because of COVID. Favored Tiz the Law finished second that day to another low-priced horse, Authentic, but it is hard to count that race.
In 2021, yet another controversy occurred. Medina Spirit finished first but was disqualified and Mandaloun was declared the winner. The favorite that day, Essential Quality was placed third after finishing fourth on race day. So during that three-year stretch, two of the races were marred by controversy and one was run in the fall because of COVID.
Last year, of course, 80-1 long shot Rich Strike shocked the world, with favorite Zandon (3-1) running third and second choice Epicenter (7-2) finishing second. So favorites since 2013 have won seven times and hit the board three times and has not finished worse than fifth. Two of the failures were in controversial races, and the other was the 2020 COVID race.
So the odds look good for Forte; if he does not make the field, it could be Tapit Trice. Either way, you will have a nice shot of winning your furniture on the first Saturday in May.
