Houston Cougars basketball guard Ramon Walker to step away from the team

Houston Cougars basketball sophomore guard Ramon Walker will step away from the program to focus on himself, head coach Kelvin Sampson told reporters on Tuesday morning.

“Ramon is going to take a little time away from the team and work on Ramon right now,” Sampson said. “But, we love Ramon. Still, he is a part of our program. We support him in everything he is going through.”

The guard has not appeared in a game for Houston since Dec. 28 against Tulsa in the American Athletic Conference opener. He played 10 minutes against the Golden Hurricane.

It is unclear what exactly Walker is going through. Sampson did not go into any specifics. After Houston’s win against SMU, Sampson said the guard was going through all kinds of stuff. Walker is averaging 2.9 points, 0.4 assists, and 2.5 rebounds in 10 games for the Cougars this season.
