Houston Cougars basketball’s Marcus Sasser leaves AAC Tournament semifinals game with groin injury
FORT WORTH — Houston Cougars basketball senior guard Marcus Sasser left the team’s American Athletic Conference Championship semifinal game on Saturday.
The Dallas native suffered the injury with just over seven minutes remaining in the first half. He crossed to his left and planted to cut but appeared to slip on the crossover and landed awkwardly instead.
Sasser stayed on the floor for a few minutes grabbing his left thigh and groin area. Houston head coach Kelvin Sampson and staff members walked onto the court to check on him.
Sasser was able to get up and walk on his own to the Houston bench. The Cougars’ athletic trainer John Houston spoke with him for several minutes on the bench.
Sasser eventually walked back to Houston’s locker room. The team announced he is receiving treatment and is officially listed as questionable to return to the game against the Bearcats. Houston leads 38-23 at halftime.
Sasser came out of the locker room and joined the Cougars on the bench for the second half but told ESPN sideline reporter Myron Medcalf that he is out for the game and dealing with a lot of pain in his groin.
Terrance Arceneaux started the second half for Houston in place of Sasser.
