Houston Cougars basketball rises back up to No. 2 in latest AP Poll
The Houston Cougars basketball team climbed up the latest Associated Poll rankings following an undefeated week.
Houston (14-1, 2-0 American Athletic) moved up to No. 2 in Monday’s AP Poll, trailing only Purdue. The Cougars garnered 1,417 total points but did not receive any first-place votes. Purdue got 60 of the 61 first-place votes. Connecticut got the lone first-place vote that did not go to the Boilermakers.
Kansas at No. 3, UConn at No. 4, and Arizona at No. 5 complete the top five. Texas at No. 6, Texas Christian at No. 17, and Baylor at No. 19 are the only other universities from the state ranked in the top 25.
No other team in the AAC was ranked outside of Houston. Memphis was the only other school with votes. The Tigers received six points.
The Cougars are No. 1 in the NCAA Evaluation Tool, or NET, rankings. Houston Cougars basketball has a 4-1 record against Quad One opponents as of Jan. 1.
Houston was also ranked at No. 2 in the USA Today Coaches Poll on Monday. The Cougars got 740 points in the poll, including two first-place votes. Purdue is also No. 1 in the coaches poll. Kansas is third. Arizona is fourth, and UConn is fifth.
