Houston Texans activate DL Michael Dwumfour from IR

On Saturday, the Houston Texans announced they had activated DL Michael Dwumfour from the IR/Designated to Return list.

Dwumfour was originally signed as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2021 by the New York Jets out of Rutgers. Dwumfour impressed coaches in his first preseason action but suffered an injury and was released with an injury settlement.

He signed with the Houston Texans October 13, 2021, and was assigned to the practice squad. He saw his first NFL regular season action December 26 of that year when the Texans defeated the Los Angeles Chargers and recorded a half-sack. He played a total of three games and was credited with five tackles.

He signed a reserve/future contract with the Texans on January 11, 2022. He was placed on injured reserve October 12.

With the activation of Dwumfour, the Texans also released DL Jaleel Johnson.

The team also announced it was elevating two players from the practice squad to the active roster for game day. DBs Cobi Francis and Will Redmond.

Francis, 24, was signed as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Memphis by the Texans after the 2022 NFL Draft and was assigned to the practice squad following final cutdowns. He has not previously appeared in an NFL regular season game. He had six career interceptions as a cornerback at Memphis.

Redmond, 28, was originally a third-round pick by the San Francisco 49ers in 2016 out of Mississippi State. Knee and ankle injuries cost the young safety most of his first two years in the league.

Redmond signed with the Texans’ practice squad November 15.

He has played 34 games in his career with five starts, recording 65 tackles and two passes defensed.
