Houston Texans Wednesday Injury Report for Week 14
The Houston Texans listed ten players on their first injury report for Week 14 against the Cowboys in Dallas.
DID NOT PARTICIPATE:
DL Mario Addison (knee): Addison played his usual contingent of snaps last week. This could be essentially a rest/load management day for him. Addison got a late start to the season, having begun the year on IR.
DL Maliek Collins (rest)
WR Nico Collins (foot): Collins played the most offensive snaps of all WRs last week for Houston, but this bears watching as the team is already down WR Brandin Cooks.
WR Brandin Cooks (calf): Cooks suffered this injury in practice last week and has not played since. The already thin WR corps is very thin without him. How/if he progresses this week is important.
FB Troy Hairston (chest): Hairston took a vicious (but legal) shot to the ribs on a poorly executed fourth-and-goal from the one-yard line play action pass Sunday when QB Kyle Allen had to roll out further left, which extended the play time and allowed the defense to figure it out. He was down for several minutes before getting up and walking to the locker room. With FBs being inherently tough people, he could progress this week to be available.
DL Kurt Hinish (shoulder): Hinish had a good amount of rotational reps last week, so this could be an injury he ultimately can work through. The team released DL Michael Dwumfour today and it is not yet a guarantee that DL Jon Greenard will be ready to return Sunday. It would not make sense to release Dwumfour if they had a strong concern that Hinish would be unavailable (unless they are being particularly coy with Greenard, as today was his first day back at practice).
DL Jerry Hughes (rest)
DB Derek Stingley Jr. (hamstring/illness): It is looking more and more like the “mild” hamstring injury that Lovie Smith has spoken of several times is not so mild. Stingley has now missed three games and could be in line to miss a fourth. Smith’s comments from his press conference today seemed to indicate Stingley will not be available Sunday.
LIMITED PARTICIPATION:
K Ka’imi Fairbairn (right groin): Well, that is not good. Fairbairn did not appear hindered Sunday, so maybe it is not something significant enough to prevent him from playing. Fairbairn has been very good this season, connecting on 21-of-23 FG attempts and making all three attempts of 50+ yards. He also has not missed an extra point this year. Free agent kickers in the middle of the season are always a toss of the dice.
FULL PARTICIPATION:
LB Garret Wallow (ankle): He is ready to go if the Texans make him active.
