It’s “starting to heat up” between the Houston Texans and DeMeco Ryans
Lead NFL Insider for CBS Sports Jonathan Jones dropped the news Sunday on CBS’ pregame coverage for the Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals AFC Divisional matchup.
They were words that generated excitement from Texans fans all over regarding DeMeco Ryans and the Houston Texans.
During CBS Sports NFL Pregame show leading to their coverage of Bills-Bengals, NFL insider Jonathan Jones stated that “things were starting to heat up” between the Texans and their former star linebacker.
Ryans has carved out an incredible reputation as a leader, both as a player and a coach. Not only was his San Francisco 49ers defense the best in the NFL this season, but he has drawn praise and endorsement from Texans legend J.J. Watt:
Although there were reports early in the process that Ryans would have no interest in the Texans’ job, those reports appear to have been erroneous.
Ryans met with the Texans Friday evening via Zoom, and ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported that those conversations were productive and went “pretty late into the evening.” Fowler added that “people around the league believe [Ryans] has traction in Houston.”
According to Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer, Ryans has gone so far as to cancel his other interviews – although it is not clear that these cancellations indicate he is close to a deal with the Texans.
The idea of a franchise great being the one to lead the team as head coach back to prominence is certainly an idea Texans fans would love to get on board with.
Jones’ report Sunday has that idea a little closer to reality.
