Houston Cougars basketball head coach Kelvin Sampson confirmed Monday evening that freshman forward Jarace Walker will head for the NBA once the season ends for UH.
Not that it was much of a secret, but Sampson’s comment was the first public acknowledgment of Walker leaving the program after just this season.
The head coach took a question from a fan during his weekly radio show. The fan asked Sampson if he knew what Walker’s plans were once Houston’s season ends sometime in the next few weeks.
Sampson was candid.
“I do know. I’ve known since the day I signed him,” Sampson responded to the fan. “Yes.”
Walker is projected to be a lottery pick in the upcoming 2023 NBA Draft. Some mock drafts have the forward as high as a top-five pick. He is averaging 11.1 points, 6.7 rebounds, and a block per game for the Houston Cougars this season.
