Kentucky wasn’t the only place for exciting thoroughbred action this weekend. Lone Star Park wrapped up another three days of action.
Friday’s allowance races began in the second race, a five furlong sprint on the turf under allowance conditions for horses 3 years old and up. Brucelea tracked the pace around the turn before taking command in the stretch and pulling away for the win. Seize the Treasure was good enough for second, while My Golden M took third. Jose Alvarez rode the winner while Karen Jackes trained.
Race five was another five furlong turf sprint, this time an allowance optional claimer for 3-year-olds. This time the longshot Bye jumped from the gate to take the lead and held off Bling Bling Bling to win. Gerardo Mora rode for trainer Greg Green and Cajun Eddie finished in third.
Allowance action picked up again Saturday in Race 3. Texas-accredited fillies and mares covered one mile for a $33,500 purse. Dixie Carousel was the beneficiary of a good trip as she swung out from the rail to overtake the leaders and grab the winner’s share. David Cabrera rode for trainer Austin Gustafson. Queen of Beers was second, with My Patriotic Girl completed the trifecta.
Will Take Cash broke his maiden in Race 4 with Stewart Elliot aboard and Steve Asmussen training. Freeport was the best of the rest in this five furlong turf maiden special weight sprint. Livingston took third place.
The action moved back to the dirt for a 6 ½ furlong race under allowance conditions in Race 5. Gun Flash, son of super sire Gun Runner, proved much the best here, pulling away in the stretch to win by three. David Cabrera picked up another win in the saddle with Karl Broberg training. Don’tcrossthedevil was second, with Lil Sweet Thang taking third.
Race 8 was an allowance optional claimer for horses 3 years old and up over one mile on the dirt. Sonneman took down another impressive win for the combination of Elliot and Asmussen, besting Palatial Times by almost seven lengths. Implicator hit the board in third.
Sunday saw the debut of a field of Texas-accredited 2-year-olds in Race 3, a maiden special weight over 4 ½ furlongs on the dirt. The Asmussen family took down the win with an impressive performance by True and Ready, a son of Tapiture. Though the victor was green, lugging out badly on the turn, he showed immense promise defeating the field by almost 10 lengths. Ozzies Wings Y G was second, with Too Much Dreaming finishing third.
Race 8 began an allowance triple-header as 3-year-olds battled in a maiden special weight over seven furlongs on the dirt. Ole Crazy Bone showed courage throughout, battling for the lead early before settling off the pace and then kicking clear in the stretch. Jose Alvarez added to his win total as jockey, and Bret Calhoun was the trainer. Shotshell was second, while Johnny Appleseed was third.
Sunday’s ninth race was Texas-accredited horses 3 years old and up covering one mile on the dirt under allowance conditions. Longshot Fearless Prince tracked the early leaders before making a bold move on the turn; he proved the best, defeating Farm Dog by three and a half lengths, with Morolicious taking third. Ernesto Valdez-Jiminez was the winning rider, and Ronnie Cravens was the conditioner.
The final race of the weekend was another allowance affair, this time for fillies and mares 3 years old and up over 1 ¹/₁₆ miles on the turf. Lady Got Moves proved that she did, as she held off Gliterary in the stretch. Get Serious was stern enough for third place. Jose Alvarez once again rode the winner, while Bret Calhoun likewise added to his total as trainer.
Lone Star Park will host another long weekend of live action beginning this Thursday with a first post of 6:35 p.m.
