Looking forward to four days of racing at Lone Star Park
Lone Star Park will kick off a four-day weekend of racing action on Thursday with a seven-race card featuring four claiming races and three allowance-level races.
The first race of the weekend is a maiden special weight over one mile on the dirt for Texas-accredited 3-year-old fillies. Governor Anne, trained by Austin Gustafson and ridden by David Cabrera, looks like a strong favorite here. She has finished second in her last two starts, and this could be her spot to graduate. The horse just to her inside, More Than Shakin, should be her biggest competition.
Race 4 is an allowance optional claimer for 3-year-old fillies over 1 ¹/₁₆ miles on the turf course. Love Tank will get a lot of attention here. She has shipped in from Sunland where she has been second in her last two starts. Oh Doo Dah Day could be a solid alternative; coming off a win and a second in her first two starts, this filly could be figuring things out.
In the seventh race, horses 3 years old and up will battle under allowance conditions over 1 ¹/₁₆ miles on the turf. Drakon, by First Samurai, is a strong contender here, he has bookended a win with two second-place finishes. Brucelea has the pedigree for grass and distance and has been in the mix in his last two starts.
Friday’s card will also consist of four claiming races and three allowance-level affairs.
Race 3 is an allowance six-furlong sprint for Texas-accredited fillies and mares on the dirt. Diamonds N Aces is a strong favorite here; she was second in her last start and has shown steady improvement in her last several races. Theteasergotloose is coming in off a win and could make things interesting. Missiszippy Bling is another consistent performer that should be in the mix as well.
Moving to Race 6, we find a maiden special weight for 3-year-olds over seven furlongs on the dirt. This looks like a wide-open race with several horses that could be the winner. Punctuality is very interesting; this son of Union Rags features the Asmusen / Elliot combo and is coming off a third-place finish in his last start. Look Sharp and Ole Crazy are decent alternatives.
Fillies and mares 3 years old and up will move to the turf for the seventh race, racing 1 ¹/₁₆ miles under allowance conditions. Tudela has been on the board in her last seven races and has a good shot here. Tahitian Breeze should be a threat if she can return to her best form. Moro Lingerie is another horse that has been running well. She has been on the board in all three starts this year, including a win two starts back.
On Saturday, Lone Star will host a ten-race card featuring six claiming races and four events at the allowance level.
Race 2 is an allowance race over six furlongs on the dirt for Texas-accredited horses 3 years old and up. Hello Hello Mister is coming in off three strong races, finishing second last out after two wins. Will the Thrill is another horse that looks like a strong contender as well.
Three-year-old maidens will battle over seven furlongs in Race 3 on the dirt. Vivaciously is by Into Mischief and will carry the potent Elliot / Asmussen combination. Pivosky or Gun Runnin Girl could be well-bred alternatives.
In the seventh race, a maiden special weight for Texas-accredited horses 3 years old and up over one mile on the turf, Bay Be Gone looks like the likely favorite. This horse has been up and down over the last three starts, but if he is back to form he should be tough to beat. Iberian Runner, the seven horse, looks like a possible spoiler. He has hit the board in his last two starts, and he could get up if Bay Be gone is not up to speed. Bulls in the Bronx is another interesting option here. He has hit the board twice in his last three starts, and this will be his second start off a layoff.
The last race on Saturday is another maiden special weight over one mile on the turf, this time for open horses 3 years old and up. Kells Bells is entered by Steve Asmussen and will be ridden by Stewart Elliott. Stasis is in good form, finishing in the top three in each of his last three starts. Another interesting option is Wagon Train, trained by Bret Calhoun; this horse is only making his third start and has shown good improvement in his first two.
The weekend will wrap up Sunday with a strong card with five races featuring a purse of $33,000.
The action kicks off right away in race one, an allowance optional claimer for horses 3 years old and up going one mile on the dirt. In this field, Gold Pilot is the clear local choice; he has won all three of his races this year, including the H-Town Stakes and the Star of Texas Stakes at Sam Houston. His competition will come in the form of Flash of Mischief, who is shipping in from Oaklawn and is getting class relief after starting in the Grade III Whitmore Stakes. Flash of Mischief did win the Ring the Bell Stakes three back.
The third race is a maiden special weight for fillies and mares 3 years old and up sprinting five furlongs on the turf. Bali Dove faced some struggles in her time at The Fair Grounds, but when she shipped to Sam Houston for her last start, she turned in a second palace finish. Madamouseepousse is a daughter of Triple Crown winner American Pharoah and is another horse who has shown signs of progress in Texas after running at bigger tracks. Another horse worth a look is Master Som, again with the Asmussen / Elliot combination.
Race 4 continues the sprinting theme as horses 3 years old and up will compete in an allowance optional claimer over five and a half furlongs on the dirt. Good Scout has won two of his last three and looks like a solid contender. Empire of Gold is returning to the Texas circuit after venturing to Oaklawn in his previous start. While he did not fare well in Arkansas, this horse has been tough around here. If neither of these horses comes through, look for Silver Wings, a son of Liam’s map who is riding a two-race win streak.
In the sixth race, fillies and mares 3 years old and up will sprint five furlongs under allowance conditions on the turf. Zinasdestinyvirago is coming in off a layoff, but she was in solid form last fall finishing third and then first in her last two starts. Sweet Adeline is another solid choice; she is by Hard Spun and is out of a Speightstown mare. Steve Asmussen owns and trains the nine horse Cadeau de Paix, and she has been on the board in two of her last three starts.
The last race of the weekend is a maiden special weight for Texas-accredited fillies and mares 3 years old and up over one mile on the turf. Missingyoucrazy looks like the most likely to graduate on paper, but Gold Memories has also been knocking at the door in her last two starts.
First post for live racing is 6:35 on Thursday and Friday and 1:35 Saturday and Sunday.
