No. 14 Baylor earns close road win over No. 17 TCU 72-68 behind Flagler’s 28 points
After a huge road win, the Baylor Bears find themselves winning nine out of their last 10 games. This 72-68 win gives Baylor a leg up in a very competitive Big 12.
Baylor came within inches of suffering a loss multiple times in the game, with TCU threatening early with a double-digit lead and in the final minutes with numerous chances to tie and take the lead. However, Adam Flagler was a man possessed, scoring 28 points, including scoring 16 straight points to catapult the Bears to a victory.
Flagler had help in the scoring department from LJ Cryer, who put up 23 points of his own while shooting 8 of 11 from the field, including 4 of 6 from 3-point range. One of the keys to Baylor’s success was their efficiency from beyond the arc. They shot 38% on the afternoon as opposed to TCU’s mere 20%.
TCU dominated in the paint offensively for a majority of the game, with 50 of their 68 points coming in the painted area. They won both the overall and offensive rebounding battle and led in second-chance points. However, they shot just 2 of 10 from 3-point range and made just 62% of their free throws.
Damion Baugh led TCU in scoring with 16 points on 50% from the field while also contributing 10 assists and seven rebounds. The Horned Frogs also found success with JaKobe Coles, who put up 15 points with five rebounds and three assists off the bench.
The Horned Frogs have had close to the opposite level of success as Baylor in recent games, as they have lost four of their last five contests. Their last win was a four-point home win over West Virginia in late January.
Baylor will look to continue their hot play against West Virginia on Monday, while TCU looks to bounce back on the road against Iowa State on Wednesday.
