Panthers request to speak with Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore for head coaching position

The Carolina Panthers are in search of a new head coach, and it looks like they have an interest in
Cowboys’ offensive coordinator Kellen Moore. This comes as no surprise, given the interest in Moore from last offseason.

Moore fits the mold of what has seemingly become popular in NFL head coaches recently. He is a young, offensive-minded coach who people around the league deem as brilliant. Ever since the Los Angeles Rams hired Sean McVay as their head coach, many teams around the league have tried to follow suit and their own, “Sean McVay.” Moore fits that profile, and because of that, he has garnered serious interest from around the league for the past several years.

Moore has spent the last four seasons as Dallas’ offensive coordinator and has been the man at the front of some of the best offenses in the league. Moore started his coaching career under former head coach Jason Garrett as a quarterbacks coach shortly after he retired from pro football. After the Cowboys fired Garrett and brought in Mike McCarthy, Moore was the only member of the Cowboys’ coaching staff that McCarthy retained.

Carolina fired head coach Matt Rhule earlier this season, who they hired three years ago following a successful run at Baylor. Steve Wilks served as the interim coach for the Panthers after Rhule’s firing. Wilks was the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals for one season before being let go for Kliff Kingsbury. This was his first season with Carolina, where he was the defensive pass game coordinator and secondary coach.
