Saints vs Bucs fight fallout – Opinion

Bucs’ WR Mike Evans has been suspended one game for his role in the fight Sunday with Saints’ CB Marshon Lattimore. Evans was previously suspended one game in 2017 for another scuffle with Lattimore. Lattimore was jawing with the sideline, then with Tom Brady. Leonard Fournette came over to push Lattimore as he and Brady shouted at one another. When Lattimore pushed Fournette back, Evans came rushing onto the field to shove Lattimore to the ground and the melee started.

It appears Lattimore will be spared a suspension, as he should. He was defending himself after the Fournette shove. There was no reason for Evans to run back onto the field after standing on the white line of the sideline. Protecting your teammates is one thing. Starting a fight after leaving the field of play is another. It is good to see the league not taking any action against Lattimore. He should’ve never been ejected from the game. After the incident and ejections, Saints quarterback Jameis Winston added three consecutive interceptions to two second half turnovers ultimately costing New Orleans the game, 20-10. Evans will serve his suspension next week for the Buc’s home opener versus Green Bay.
