SEC: 3 Things to Watch for in 2022
1. Alabama’s Nick Saban and Texas A&M’s Jimbo Fisher offseason beef over NIL-based recruiting isn’t going away. Saban was caught talking trash about A&M’s recruiting class and how they “paid” guys to come there. Fisher took offense and the beef has been on since.
2. Every SEC team with a chance to make a bowl game is either returning a starting QB (Bama, Arkansas, Miss State, Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Florida) or has a high-profile transfer (South Carolina, TX A&M, Ole Miss).
3. Georgia and Bama are the class of the conference, but there are some very interesting teams that could knock them off. In the West: A&M, Arkansas, Ole Miss, Miss State all have enough talent and good coaching to give Bama a scare if they put it together. In the East: Tennessee, Kentucky, and South Carolina might be able to give Georgia fits.
Game of the year is undoubtedly TX A&M @ Bama October 8. A&M will be defending their recruiting honor against the bully of the conference. Emotions will be running high for this one. The SEC West could be decided by the outcome.
Georgia and Bama (10.5) have the highest O/U, while Vandy (2.5) of course has the lowest. My best bet will be Arkansas over 7.5 wins (+130, 3 stars) because I believe KJ Jefferson is a special QB and has a season as the starter under his belt.
The SEC championship will be Bama beating Georgia in another classic. I feel Bama has retained more talent than Georgia has from last season, while also reloading. These two are neck and neck with one another, but far ahead of the rest of the conference. Look for a surprise out of either division should one of these two lose a regular season conference game.
