Sources: Texans hire Chargers’ Shane Day as offensive assistant

According to multiple sources, head coach DeMeco Ryans is making another addition to the Texans’ coaching staff, this time hiring former Chargers passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach Shane Day as an offensive assistant coach. Ryans is familiar with Day after the two coaches worked on the same staff in San Francisco during the 2019 and 2020 seasons. During those years, DeMeco Ryans coached the 49ers’ linebackers while Day coached quarterbacks.

Day has NFL coaching experience with Miami, Washington, and Chicago, as well as San Francisco and Los Angeles. At the college level, Day coached at Michigan and Connecticut. A graduate of Kansas State University, Day played both baseball and football at Rhodes College. He began his coaching career in 2001 at Auburn Riverside High School in Auburn, Wash.
