Stingley Jr. could be back soon for Texans

On Monday, Houston Texans head coach Lovie Smith stated that rookie cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. could be back in the near future:

“He has a hamstring injury. With a hamstring injury, the different degree of hamstring injuries that I’ve had and seen, he has a mild hamstring injury. What does that mean? I don’t really know what it means either, but it kept him out of the game yesterday. I don’t exactly when he’ll be back. Hopefully sooner than later.”

While not providing an exact timeline, the tenor of Smith’s words indicating it was a mild injury and his hope he will be back sooner than later would suggest this is an injury that may only cost Stingley another game or so.

If Stingley were able to return after missing just 2-3 games, it would be a boost for the secondary. Desmond King played well in Stingley’s absence in Week 11 and will continue to man the position until the rookie returns.
