Texans add weapon for Stroud, select Iowa State WR Xavier Hutchinson with 205th pick in the sixth round

The Texans decided to get back up in the sixth round in order to add another weapon for their new franchise quarterback C.J. Stroud. Iowa State’s Xavier Hutchinson was not expected to make it to this spot.

Hutchinson led the Big 12 in receiving yards this past season with 1,171 yards on 107 catches and six touchdowns. He’s a phenomenal route-runner with great hands and body control. He excels in winning at the catch point despite not having top-tier vertical athleticism.

He has great size at 6-2, 203 pounds, but lacks elite speed and explosiveness. He’s going to win late in his routes with cuts and deception. This will be considered one of the better value picks at the wide receiver position when the draft concludes. Stroud will benefit from his services greatly as a route-runner and intermediate possession receiver.
