Texans announce Kyle Allen to start at quarterback

In yet another change of direction by the Houston Texans this week, head coach Lovie Smith formally announced that Allen would replace Davis Mills this week as starting quarterback.

It has been a whirlwind week for the Texans and head coach Lovie Smith, seemingly changing their minds with each way the wind seems to blow.

Following his defiant denial of a quarterback change on Sunday, followed by a change of heart on Monday, and denials on Wednesday, Lovie Smith made the quarterback change official on Friday.

As first reported by Gallery Sports’ own John McClain Wednesday, the Houston Texans will officially start Kyle Allen at quarterback against the Dolphins in Miami.

Allen steps into a very difficult spot, starting on the road against one of the best teams in the AFC and needing to compete with one of the most explosive offenses in the NFL.

Allen replaces struggling second-year QB Davis Mills. Mills has completed only 61.9% of his passes this season while throwing for 2,144 yards, with 11 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. His QBR is an astonishingly low 29.4. Over his last five games, Mills has thrown 6 TD and 7 INT. The Texans have lost all five games.
