Texans bring Keyes back, release Doaks

Keyes rejoins the franchise after being released on Oct. 18.

The Houston Texans announced Thursday that they have re-signed DB BoPete Keyes to the practice squad.

Keyes, 25, was a seventh-round pick by the Kansas City Chiefs out of Tulane in 2020. He was active for eight games in his rookie season and made eight tackles. The Chiefs released him on August 31, 2021.

After spending time with the Indianapolis Colts, New England Patriots, and Chicago Bears in 2021, Keyes signed with the Texans’ practice squad on Sep. 13, 2022.

After being released by the Texans on October 18, he was signed a week later to the Atlanta Falcons practice squad. The Falcons released him on Nov. 8.

To make room for Keyes on the practice squad, the Texans released RB Gerrid Doaks.

Doaks, 24, was a seventh-round pick by the Miami Dolphins in the 2021 NFL Draft out of Cincinnati. He earned All-AAC honors his senior season when he accumulated 875 total yards and nine total touchdowns in nine games.

Doaks was part of the final roster cuts by the Dolphins in 2021 and then signed to the team’s practice squad a day later. He was released by the Dolphins on August 29, 2022, and signed with the Texans’ practice squad on Sep. 7.
