Texans claim WR Amari Rodgers
The Houston Texans were awarded WR Amari Rodgers on waivers from the Green Bay Packers.
On Wednesday, the Houston Texans announced they had acquired WR Amari Rodgers off waivers from the Green Bay Packers.
Rodgers, 23, is a former third-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft by the Packers out of Clemson. Rodgers had served primarily as a return man for Green Bay but has experienced difficulty with ball security.
Rodgers had a critical fumble on a punt return in the third quarter of Green Bay’s Week 10 win over the Dallas Cowboys. His fumble gave Dallas the ball at the Green Bay 45-yard line and led to a touchdown that gave Dallas a lead at the time. The Packers would rally from a 14-point fourth quarter deficit to win in overtime.
In Week 7, Rodgers muffed a punt that led directly to a field goal for the Washington Commanders. Green Bay lost that game 23-21.
For the season, Rodgers has four receptions for 50 yards as a receiver. He also has 20 punt returns for 199 yards, averaging seven yards per return. Rodgers has six kick returns for 122 yards, averaging 20.3 yards per return.
To make room for Rodgers on the roster, the Texans waived WR Tyron Johnson. Johnson dressed in two games for the Texans this season, recording an eight-yard catch.
