Texans complete second interview with 49ers defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans
By now, it is a well-known fact that the Houston Texans are bullish on San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans for their head coaching position. Those reports now become a bit more reinforced as Ryans reportedly finished his second interview with the Texans on Tuesday.
Ryans has been a top target for the Texans since the start of the offseason, and recent reports would indicate that the Texans could be zeroing in on him as their next head coach. The Texans have interviewed numerous candidates, such as both Eagles coordinators Shane Steichen and Jonathan Gannon, as well as highly coveted veteran coach Sean Payton. Ryans also looks to be on several other teams’ radars as the offseason progresses.
Ryans just finished his second season as the 49ers’ defensive coordinator and his sixth season as a coach in the NFL, all with San Francisco. He worked as a defensive quality control coach for one year to begin his coaching career before spending the next three years as the inside linebackers coach.
He played 10 years in the NFL, his first six with the Texans after being drafted in the second round of the 2006 NFL Draft. He then finished his career after spending four seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles.
