Texans interview Gannon, Steichen
The Houston Texans continued their search for a head coach by interviewing the Philadelphia Eagles’ defensive and offensive coordinators.
On Saturday, the Houston Texans announced they had completed first interviews with Eagles offensive coordinator Shane Steichen and Eagles defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon.
Steichen, 37, has been the Eagles’ offensive coordinator for the past two seasons. Philadelphia has the NFL’s third-ranked offense this season. Eagles QB Jalen Hurts has seen significant improvement under Steichen as well, posting career-best numbers in completion percentage, yards, passing touchdowns, rushing touchdowns, QBR, and quarterback rating while lowering his interceptions and interception percentage.
Gannon, 40, has been the Eagles’ defensive coordinator for the past two seasons. He was heavily considered by the Texans last year for their head coaching vacancy. Philadelphia was the league’s second-best defensive unit and led the league in sacks by a wide margin. Their 70 sacks were 15 more than second-ranked Kansas City. They were tied for fourth with 27 total takeaways.
