The Houston Texans may not be done raiding Kyle Shanahan’s staff in San Francisco.

The Houston Texans requested an interview with the San Francisco 49ers passing game coordinator Bobby Slowik Tuesday and conducted the interview Wednesday, according to Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 in Houston.

Slowik, 35, began his coaching career in 2011 with Washington as a defensive assistant under former Washington head coach Mike Shanahan. He spent three seasons with the organization until the team dismissed Shanahan.

He then spent three years as an analyst for Pro Football Focus, the preeminent NFL stats and analytics website.

In 2017, Slowik joined the 49ers as a defensive quality control coach. In 2019, he moved to the offensive side of the ball, becoming an offensive assistant.

In 2021, Slowik took over as offensive pass game specialist following the departure of then-passing game coordinator Mike LaFleur who left to become the offensive coordinator of the New York Jets. He became the passing game coordinator in 2022.

While the 49ers finished 2022 13th in passing offensively, the fact the team was able to consistently adapt the passing game through three different quarterbacks and finish the season at their strongest is noteworthy.

After Jimmy Garoppolo was injured early in Week 13, seventh-round pick Brock Purdy navigated the 49ers to the last six wins of a 10-game winning streak to finish the regular season. Prurdy was also under center for two playoff wins that landed the Niners in the NFC Championship Game. Prudy’s strong play has the 49ers thinking he could be a quality NFL starting quarterback long-term. San Francisco scored 33+ points in five of Purdy’s six starts down the stretch of the regular season.

Slowik was able to get the most out of Purdy, the 262nd and final draft choice in the 2022 NFL Draft, making him “Mr. Irrelevant.” Purdy finished the season completing 67.1% of his passes for 13 touchdowns and just four interceptions.

Slowik is well-versed in the Shanahan west coast offense and is obviously familiar with Ryans.
