Texans officially sign QB Jeff Driskel

The two-quarterback system could be here to stay for the rest of the season.

On Wednesday, the Houston Texans made it official, signing quarterback Jeff Driskel to the active roster for the rest of the season. This move would seem to indicate the two-quarterback system the Texans deployed so well Week 14 in Dallas will remain in place for the rest of the season.

Driskel was a positive impact for the Texans on Sunday in Dallas, crisply executing RPOs that generated extra running room for running back Dameon Pierce and throwing a touchdown pass as well. Driskel finished 4-of-6 passing for 38 yards and a touchdown and had seven carries for 36 yards.

The Texans also announced three other moves today:

  • Signed WR D.J. Montgomery to the practice squad.
  • Placed OL Jordan Steckler on the Restored to Practice Squad/Designated for Return list.
  • Placed WR Jalen Camp on Practice Squad/Injured list.

Driskel’s signing would also indicate that QB Kyle Allen will likely be inactive for the rest of the season, barring an injury to Driskel or Davis Mills.
