Texans select Notre Dame OL Jarrett Patterson with 201st pick in the sixth round

The Texans dip into the center pool again with the selection of Notre Dame’s Jarrett Patterson. They traded up into the late-second round for Penn State’s Juice Scruggs.

Patterson stands at 6-5, 306 pounds and started 46 games for the Fighting Irish. He provides great positional versatility and a high football IQ, which is useful for a team looking to drastically improve its offensive line. He’s a polished player with great technique and doesn’t have trouble sustaining blocks.

Patterson’s area of improvement is his level of blocking once he hits the second level. At times, he misses assignments after he hits his first defender. He also doesn’t possess high-level athleticism, which limits his upside. However, Patterson should be in the mix for multiple interior spots on the offensive line for the Texans next season.
