The Houston Texans continue to bolster their defensive line.

According to reports, the Houston Texans are signing defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins to a one-year, $10.5 million deal.

Rankins, who turns 29 on April 2, has played seven years in the NFL, including the last two seasons with the New York Jets. Last season, in 15 games (all starts), Rankins had 43 tackles, four tackles for loss, seven quarterback hits, and three sacks.

Rankins earned a 73.1 grade from Pro Football Focus in 2022, the second-best of his career.

He has totaled 191 tackles, 23½ sacks, four forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries in 94 career games (51 starts) with the New Orleans Saints and Jets. He was selected by the Saints with the 12th overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.

Rankins should also help shore up what was the NFL’s worst run defense a year ago.
