Texas Tech’s McGuire gets contract extension
Texas Tech announced Wednesday that head football coach Joey McGuire has agreed to a new six-year contract with a pay raise and extension through the 2028 season.
As per a statement from Texas Tech, the six-year, $26.6 million deal will call for McGuire to receive $100,000 annual increases in his yearly compensation, rising to $4.6 million for the 2028 campaign, not including various performance bonuses.
Texas Tech’s 7-5 regular season record in McGuire’s first season was the program’s best since 2015. Tech finished the season playing well, winning three straight over Kansas, Iowa State, and Oklahoma.
Joey McGuire’s cocahing experience before arriving in Lubbock included leading Cedar Hill High School to three Texas state championships and five seasons on Baylor’s coaching staff.
The Red Raiders finished off the 2022 season with a TaxAct Texas Bowl win over Ole Miss, 42-25.
