4 things to watch in the SEC for 2022
Heisman Watchlist: Bama’s QB Bryce Young (+380) leads the way in the conference. His teammates LB Will Anderson Jr (+1600), and RB Jahmyr Gibbs (+3500) are the next best favorites. The other top favorites are all starting QBs. Tennessee’s Hendon Hooker (+4000), Florida’s Anthony Richardson (+4000), and Kentucky’s Will Levis (+5000) are all next in line. I’d look at Anderson as the best value among the bunch.
Offensive Breakout Star: Arkansas QB KJ Jefferson has the chance to catapult himself into some lofty spaces with a big-time performance this season. At 6’3 and 242 lbs, Jefferson brings a different dimension to being a dual threat QB with his LB size. If he shows out, look for him to be this year’s dark horse to shoot up the draft boards that typically happens at that position from time to time.
Defensive Breakout Star: Georgia LB Nolan Smith Jr is a preseason 2nd Team All American. Not much of a breakout if he’s being recognized as much, but I expect him to be a 1st rounder in next year’s draft. how high he goes will depend on his play. The 6’3, 235lb senior has ideal size to go along with good athleticism. If he can prove to be another sideline to sideline monster this defense has had in the past, look for him to be a top pick in next year’s draft.
Underrated Storyline: Keep an eye on Florida’s head coach Billy Napier. He’s in his first season in Gainesville, but has been recognized as one of the best young up and coming coaches in the game. His success at his previous stop at Louisiana Lafayette landed him this job. Couple that with the new facilities they just opened, and look for the Gators to be back on track real soon
