Grambling 47, Northwestern State 21: Grambling used a 27-point second quarter to blow this one open taking a 41-7 lead into halftime. From there, the Tigers cruised in front of the home folks at Independence Stadium, squaring their record at 1-1 on the season. QB Quaterius Hawkins threw for 293 yards and 3 touchdowns, while Maurice Washington chipped in for 95 yards and 2 touchdowns on the ground for Grambling.

LSU 65, Southern 14: Unfortunately for the Jaguars, this one was almost over before it started. LSU took a 37-0 lead after one quarter, and that was all she wrote for Southern, who trailed 51-0 at the half. The Tigers went to their backups in the second half on their way to a lopsided victory. The Jaguars were outgained 550-262 and lost the battle of turnovers 5-2. With the loss, Southern falls to 1-1 on the season.

North Texas 59, Texas Southern 27: The Tigers hung tough for a while, staying within a touchdown at the end of the first quarter. A 35-point 2nd quarter by North Texas put this one out of reach for Texas Southern. TSU was within 94 total yards of the Mean Green at halftime but was undone by 90 first-half penalty yards, while North Texas had just 20 penalty yards at the half. A relatively quiet second half allows North Texas to coast to the one-sided victory. Texas Southern is now 0-2.

Abilene Christian 21, Prairie View A&M 13: Prairie View went into the locker room with a 13-7 lead at halftime, but the Panther’s offense stalled while the defense tired, surrendering 14 fourth-quarter points, giving Abilene Christian the win. QB Trazon Connley paced the A&M offense with 240 yards through the air. The loss evens the Panthers’ record at 1-1.
