UH’s Gervarrius Owens selected by the New York Giants in the NFL Draft

Houston Cougars football alumnus defensive back Gervarrius Owens was taken by the New York Giants with the 254th pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Owens had 74 total tackles in the 2022 season, which was second on the team. He also had one interception and forced two fumbles at free safety. He joined the Houston program as a sophomore in 2019. He spent the 2018 year in JUCO at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M.

Owens, a seventh-round pick, became the fourth UH player to be selected in the draft joining Nathaniel “Tank” Dell, Clayton Tune, and Derek Parish.
